LightBot is an installation and interactive robot that uses LED lights to draw in 3D space. The LED assembly, or End Effector (EE), follows a predetermined path or tracks the human hand. The color and illumination will vary as the EE moves, such that LightBot can draw a cohesive image. By taking a long exposure photograph, the history of movement and color variation can be captured in a single image.
By creating an installation where the light unit interacts with the user, we represent the cohabitation of tech and human in the modern and future world. We want to communicate the positive and negative influences between human and technology through two avenues: the Human-LightBot interaction and the pre-planned animation in a software.
We designed, manufactured, and assembled all parts of the machine: winches, pulleys, and electronics assembly.
