The Palace at 4 AM
This piece was for a project called Imaginative Contours in Space and inspired by Giacometti’s The Palace at 4am. As I wrote in my evaluation: “the figure on the right is meant to be someone leaping out of bed. He/she is in a sort of cage, because as soon as we wake up from our sleep we immediately feel on display. People often feel trapped in their lives, and their only escape is by sleeping. The wooden squares at the back rotate to the right, and so the piece has a clear chronological timeline.“ Trying to create a cohesive narrative using only wood was the primary motivation for this project. Harnessing my previous theatre experience, I worked backwards from the premise of designing a set for a play.
